Luna Animal Rescue (LAR) started in October 2013 and has grown considerably over the last five years. We
have successfully re-homed some 420 dogs, 175 cats and a further 50 small animals, birds and reptiles.
We continue to use foster homes and everyone works on a purely voluntary basis with absolutely no paid staff. We rely heavily on our foster homes to provide love, care and where appropriate, training for our animals, and are one big, very positive animal loving family. We have established some excellent links with local vets and businesses to help us get to where we have so far, however, we are always looking out for opportunities to forge links with companies who may like to support a small, totally voluntary, local charity.
We advertise our animals on our Facebook page, through our website (both of which are very popular) and in local publications. We often visit our linked store Pets at Home in Biggleswade, who help us with our fundraising throughout the year. Our main outgoings are vet bills which are often £4,000 a month! Constant and dedicated fundraising is needed to cover this effectively.
We collect donations of food, equipment and bedding in a variety of places (Morrison’s in Royston has a donation bin), and Pets Corner in Frog End are really great supporters of us too. We undertake lots of fundraising activities through the Summer months and are looking forward to celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Royston Veterinary Centre with them later in the year!
