Enjoy all the sparkles from indoors!
Dogs and cats are much more sensitive to loud noises such as fireworks. Some of them might even become affected by “noise phobia”, that is an irrational fear of bangs, thunderstorms and fireworks. Phobic animals perceive as extremely dangerous a loud noise and get terrified, they might run into furniture, jump and hurt themselves, drool, shake, urinate or defecate in the house.
What to do with a phobic animal? The best solution is a behavioural re-education that means making them understand that such noises are not that dangerous. You can buy CDs with fireworks/bangs/thunderstorms noises and introduce gradually to your pet. Start at the lowest volume level, after they appear calm and used to the sound you can increase the volume level gradually. In time your pets will associate noises to a positive event, such as playing or receiving their favourite treat. In the most serious cases, you might need calming tablets/collar/plug-in to use with the behavioural re-education. Just pop-in and ask the staff!
