Community News: Thriplow Daffodil Weekend – Bad weather didn’t deter visitors…

Over the weekend of 25th & 26th March, visitors battered gale force winds on the Saturday and were saturated by heavy deluges of ice-cold rain on the Sunday: the annual Thriplow Daffodil Weekend admirably survived nature’s torment and attracted an outstanding 12,000 visitors from all over the Nation across the two days. Many of them were seasoned regulars who support the event every year.

The organisation’s chair, Paul Earnshaw, told a Radio Royston representative that it was an outstanding weekend. “ Tickets were a complete sell out of 6,000 each day, and in spite of the bad weather everyone enjoyed themselves. It was a great British event with everything that had been experienced at previous weekends and more.  It is quite amazing that although the village only boasts a mere 350 permanent inhabitants, we witnessed over 400 volunteers turn out to offer their help! ”

The momentous weekend raised a provisional £70,000 for three charities, Magpas, Cambridge Sustainable Food, and Tom’s Trust. The latter raised funds to assist in clinical psychology for children with brain tumours, which was set up in memory of nine year old local lad, Tom.

Next year’s dates for the event are the 16th and 17th of March 2024 with tickets on sale now. Just a reminder that admission is by pre-booked ticket only – www.thriplowdaffodils.org.uk/daffodil-weekend
