Country Weekend Defies Arctic Blast.
The organisers of the 50th. Thriplow Daffodil event found themselves confronted with a nightmare scenario at the weekend with freezing temperatures, snow and ice and a raw Siberian wind, inflicting havoc with the blooming flowers.
However, apart from an unfortunate reduction in footfall, the show went ahead as planned.
The trade stalls and the hot food vendors were present, so were the Morris Dancers and the Civil War re-enactment Regiment. The dog show and many of the other traditional events associated with the show all entertained the dedicated visitors, many of whom have been supporting the event for many years, who braved the atrocious weather conditions to demonstrate how much they appreciate the hard work of the organising team.
The nominated charity for this year’s event was Stars, which supports young people facing grief after the death of someone close to them.
Sarah Russell who had travelled over from Newmarket was happily choosing bunches of daffodils to take home, and said that she had enjoyed a great day. Whilst Imelda Micallef, from Buckinghamshire, who had visited the show last year for the first time, stated that she was so impressed she just had to return again this year.
